Why I do not follow the latest “trends” in photography.
Trends…love to hate them, hate to love them. Regardless of the new trend, I will always stay true to my style. Classic, timeless, true to life colors.
As a photographer, I’ve watched trends come and go more times than I can count.
Warm and moody.
Dark and dramatic.
Light and airy.
Desaturated.
Overly saturated.
Matte.
Grainy.
Bronze skin.
Muted greens.
And while I can appreciate creativity and evolving artistry, there’s one thing I know for sure:
I will always stay true to clean, crisp, true-to-life color.
Because Trends Fade — Memories Don’t
Photography trends are just that…trends. They cycle through every few years, often faster. What feels fresh and exciting today can feel dated tomorrow.
But your wedding day?
Your baby’s first year?
Your senior year?
Your family photos with little hands wrapped around yours?
Those moments deserve to look timeless, not timestamped by whatever editing style was popular that season.
True-to-life color means that when you look back 10, 20, even 40 years from now, your photos will still feel real. The grass will look like the grass you stood on. Your skin will look like your skin. The sky will look like the sky you remember.
Because You Deserve to Recognize Yourself
One of the biggest reasons I stay true to natural color is simple: you should recognize yourself in your photos.
Your skin tone should not be orange.
Your dress should not be gray when it was white.
Your sunset should not be brown when it was glowing gold.
Your face should be crisp and noticeable, not grainy and blurry.
Clean, crisp editing honors reality. It enhances without overpowering. It refines without distorting. It brings out the beauty that already exists rather than replacing it with a filter.
When you invest in photography, you’re investing in authenticity, not an Instagram preset.
I pride myself on consistency
Staying true to my editing style isn’t just about preference. It’s about integrity.
When you hire me, you know exactly what you’re going to get. My portfolio reflects the final product. I don’t shift my entire style based on what’s trending online. I don’t re-edit my work every few years to keep up with the algorithm.
This is why I am confident and always willing to show a client their photo straight on the back of my camera. I know that outside of adding some pop and maybe helping a few fly-away hairs or removing a distracting object, their photos will be very similar to what they see on the back of my camera, only better.
Because Light Is Beautiful On Its Own
I believe in capturing light as it naturally falls. The soft glow at golden hour. The brightness of a clear afternoon. The gentle shadows that add depth without heaviness.
Clean, crisp color allows light to shine the way it was meant to.
There’s something powerful about simplicity, about letting the moment speak without dramatic overlays or heavy filters. I love all light, but I am most partial to early morning and late afternoon/early evening! I love the softness and glow that it brings!
Because Your Story Isn’t a Trend
Your love story isn’t a trend.
Your child’s laugh isn’t a trend.
Your milestones aren’t a trend.
They’re real. They’re meaningful. And they deserve to be documented in a way that honors that.
So while styles will continue to shift and evolve, my commitment remains the same: timeless, true-to-life imagery that feels as beautiful decades from now as it does today.
Because in the end, the goal isn’t to create what’s trendy.
It’s to create what lasts.
